Summer is here! Now might be a good time to look at what you are stocking in your pharmacy and team up with some independent retailers to bring some unique and popular items to your shelf space. Lets look at some items that are hot right now and you could stock a few of to get in on the current trends.
Beard grooming products. It looks like the beard trend is here to stay, and as more men grow beards your pharmacy should adapt to sell products geared towards helping groom them. Beard oils, grooming supplies, and even glitter for your beard (yes, this is a thing). Beard brothers has a fairly cool product line and might be worth a look.
Detoxes: A popular health trend is to go on a 3-7 day detox. Sometimes these are done for weight loss, sometimes for overall health, but they are popular, and as a pharmacist it would be a good idea to have some options to offer your clients. Bembu has a great blog on the benefits of detoxes.
Healthier/unique snack options: There are lots of cool unique snack options on the market today that are healthier than traditional options and would be great fits for a pharmacy. If you are in a rural area and jumped on as a early adopter of some of these items it would be great as your pharmacy could be a go to establishment for the item.
- Skinny Pop Popcorn: This is a hot new popcorn brand that prides itself on the quality of it’s ingredients.
- Dang Foods: They make some awesome shaved coconut chips in a variety of flavors including bacon!
- Epic Provision: Meat energy bars. Not jerky, not a powerbar, but a combo of the two.
- Exo: If you thought Epic Provision was taking energy bars to the next level look at what exo is doing with Crickets as there protein source.
Body Scrubs: Skin cleansing scrubs using unique products are popular right now. One popular brand hempz which uses hemp oil, our Creative Director has used it on occasion, coffee scrubs are currently popular on the market as well. Having unique skin care options that are higher end and using unique sources could be a lot better seller at a higher margin than what you currently are selling.
Beverages: Teas are big on the market right now. There popularity keeps rising as people are looking for a healthy drink. Green tea, Matcha, and Kombucha are all huge, the health benefits over soda and energy drinks are well documented. Cold brew coffee is also popular as well as during the summer months, as some like there coffee ice cold rather than hot or luke warm. For our pharmacy, Paulsen’s, we are working with local brands Stumptown Coffee and Humm Kombucha as our main distributers of these hot selling items.
Adult coloring books: This one is kind of out there, but it is a hot new trend. There seems to be something zen and relaxing in filling out a complex coloring book as an adult. One of the top selling books on amazon is an adult coloring book where people fill in swear words. (I know, what the f*ck, right?) Just make sure you don’t try to save a buck or two and buy them used for resale. These pair pretty well with the cards and stationary section that a lot of drug stores have.
So, that is what is hot on the market right now, and that might be able to carve some shelf space out for as an independent pharmacist. We will try to come back to this topic every six months or so to give you an idea of what could be some niche new retail items to stock could be. For some info on what is going on in our store, Paulsen’s, check out the case study series we have going on right now.
