One way to drum up some quick business for your pharmacy is to throw an awesome promotional campaign! Here are a few tips for store owners on how to put together a great promotional plan for your independent pharmacy.
Set the right goals
One key thing you should look at is your goal for your promotion. What, specifically, do you want to gain from this promotion? Make sure you use the standard SMART goal format and cater to your target market. For more info on that check out our blog here.
Choose the promotion
There are three main types of promotions you can throw:
Holiday promotions are based around a holiday i.e. the 4th of July, store anniversary, local celebration etc.
Product promotions are based around a new product line you are stocking or select loss leaders to get people into the store and buying other items.
Event promotions are based around you throwing some type of teaching event at the store.
Get the word out
Getting the word out can be done in a variety of ways. If you’re going old school, you can use print. This would included sending direct mailers out to people in the surrounding neighborhoods and printing some point of sale flyers for your pharmacy. You can also use social media. Make sure you utilize the media accounts of your employees as well!
Stock the right inventory
Make sure you are stocking the right inventory for the promotion. If you have an overstock of items, label them at a discount and look to move them out of the store. A promotion can also be a good time to introduce new items to your product line, and show them off to your clients.
Pick the right partners
Make sure you coordinate with surrounding businesses during the promotion. It can be a good time to start some cross marketing with your neighbors. If possible, its also a good idea to have some food, beverages, or freebies for your clients for coming in.
Its a good idea to wear your business owner hat more that your pharmacist hat during the promotion. Remember to engage with clients coming into the store and make sure you get their data so you can keep in touch with them after the event!
